Import IoT Data

Ark supports the integration of registered IoT data metrics into carbon data accounting. This allows you to capture accurate emissions and consumption data from IoT meters connected to various sources such as energy, power generation, gas, steam, water, and more.

Convert Standard Entity to IoT Entity

To import IoT data from connected meters and devices, you need to first convert the standard entity node into an IoT entity node.

Prerequisites

Contact your system administrator if your account does not meet the below requirements:

  • Ensure your account has the view admin, super admin or operator role to configure entity settings.

  • Ensure your account has permission to manage the related entity data.

  • Ensure that IoT data integration to IoT assets is configured in the associated device connectivity and metric management modules, and resource manager system.

  1. Click on Data Management > Organization in the left navigation pane. Select the view you wish to enter data in the view bar.

  2. Select Configuration in the upper right corner to go into editor mode.

  3. In the left entity list, locate the entity you wish to repurpose as an IoT entity, then click Mapping IoT Asset mapping_iot_button to enable IoT asset data synchronization to your entity.

  4. In the pop up window, select a pre-configured Asset Tree and Asset that you want to connect to the selected entity to import IoT data.

  5. Click OK to save IoT mapping settings and then click Preview. The entity will now appear as an IoT entity on the data preview dashboard, ready to import IoT data from the connected asset for carbon accounting.

Note

You can also revert IoT-enabled entities back to standard entities. To do this, select Mapping IoT Asset next to the entity in the entity list (left sidebar), then choose Unmap IoT Entity in the popup window and click OK.

Import IoT Data as Data Records

Import IoT data from the connected asset by the following steps:

  1. Click on Data Management > Data Entry in the left navigation pane.

  2. Select the view and entity from the drop down menu, then select the corresponding accounting standard and specify the reporting year. Select a month tab to start configuring IoT data settings.

  3. Based on the emission type of the captured IoT data, expand the scope and emission category tabs, and then choose the appropriate emission source and dimension associated with the IoT data.

  4. Click on the Activity Data activity_data_button button.

  5. In the side panel, select the appropriate measurement units corresponding to the IoT data, and select Ref as the data source.

  6. Click on reference activity_data_button button and select the corresponding measurement point from the dropdown list.
This connects the entity to the relevant IoT meter data source.

  7. Click Save and IoT data will be imported under activity data column in the selected month.

  8. Depending on the scenario, you can import IoT data for multiple months in two ways:

    • Auto-Synchronization: To import IoT data for the entire year, click Sync Reference Index button after completing steps 1-7. This will auto generate monthly records in the selected emission source for the entire year based on the settings saved in steps 3-7, and sync monthly available IoT data from the selected measurement point. This action replaces any existing activity data with IoT data.

    • Manual Configuration: If you have existing data from previous months in the selected emission source that you wish to not overwrite, repeat steps 1-7 to import IoT data records individually every month.
